Sweets to the Sweet

Sweetreats by Lattis, located at 4810 Fulton Avenue in Sherman Oaks, California, was an idea borne purely out of the love of baking.  The owner of this wonderful sweet business, Lattis Richards, is best known for her Malibu Rocks, wonderful array of Scones, stupendously delicious Layer Cakes and Gift Cakes.  She is an artist in many media with a diversity from gourmet foods to gift basket design.  She was influenced by the exotic feel of the affluence exhibited among the sandy pebble-like beaches of Malibu in the creation of a product she calls, Malibu Rocks, a blending of walnuts and pecans in a rum and orange marinade, submerged in white chocolate.

Born and raised in the warm climate on the island of Barbados, Lattis has had a deep respect for traditions instilled in her since youth.  She came to the States as a teenager and settled in Connecticut with her small family. At graduation she was enticed by show business and worked in the sales department for various shows at NBC such as the Midnight Special, the Today Show, the Tonight Show, and finally, worked exclusively for Tom Snyder of the Tomorrow Show, who encouraged her interest in developing exotic recipes for cakes, cookies and confections which she did in her home in 1982.

Later, on a friend’s encouragement, she began marketing her developments for Mother’s Day. She met with terrific success and eventually opened her first gourmet shop in 1986, carrying many delicacies such as mustards and jams, but featuring her own truffles, cookies and custom designed desserts and cakes.

After successfully marketing her Malibu Rocks to stores such as Buffums, Bullock's, Nordstrom and other specialty shops and boutiques in northern and southern California, Maryland and Florida, she continues to create more unique products, introducing them to you through this website.
